Musée Fabre is already more than a century old. The age old structure was founded by François-Xavier Fabre in 1825. Fabre himself is a painter and he decided to build a museum to display some paintings that he made. But through years, the number of paintings increased. Now the museum is known to house extensive work of popular French artists. Aside from the impressive paintings, you’ll be able to see the great French sculptures as well.

When you’re there for the summer or just for any season, be sure to visit the Museum today. As of this writing, the museum undergoing renovation that is set to be done in 2007. Don’t be disheartened since you’ll still be able to see some of the famous works of the museum. That will be for the best since if you have visited the museum before the reconstruction begun in 2002, all you have to see is a dull building with lots and lots of windows. It’s like a century old hotel that’s waiting and waiting for renovation.
It’s really not hard to miss this museum since it’s conveniently located in the town square. Anyone who had been in Montpellier even just once can tell you where the center of the town is and from there, you’ll be able to easy make out which one is the museum among the series of building that surround Place de la Comedie.
